Sandman Slim

James Stark lived through hell, literally.  Eleven years of it.  Now he's escaped to the mortal realm, bent on vengeance.  Compared to Stark, Harry Dresden and John Constantine have earned their harps and halos.

Sandman Slim may not be high art - William Gibson said it was "the best B movie I've read in at least twenty years" - but it's a fun read, violent and rollicking as any Guy Ritchie movie.  The plot movement is excellent, the dialogue is hilarious, and if the characters are less picture-perfect and more blood-soaked, slapdash impressions, I can't imagine them being any other way.

I'd recommend this novel to anyone who likes darker urban fantasy/horror, and who isn't offended by the following sample dialogue:

"You dare speak to an angel of the Lord that way?"

"If I hurt your feelings, get God down here so I can tell Him to His face."
