Saga vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

I avidly collected the single issues of this one from my favorite local comic book store (Westfield Comics, my local one is on the East Side), and I'm excited to have the trade available to sell to Room's customers, too!

Vaughan's writing is assured and Staples' art is kinetic. In a comics industry dominated by two giant publishers, it's refreshing to see a talented, established writer (you may recognize his name from Vertigo's excellent series Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina, as well as on television's LOST) team up with a fresh, bold artist on a creator-owned project as ambitious as this one. Saga represents some of the best in independent comics publishing, and is a deeply real story of the terrors, joys, transcendence, and ignominy of being brand-new parents, packaged in a fabulously well-realized sci-fi political saga. I can't wait to see what Vaughan and Staples bring us in future installments of this title. If you love comics, you need this one in your life.
