WisCon: The World's Leading Feminist Science Fiction Convention

Event date:
Thursday, May 27, 2010 - 12:00am

Welcome to WisCon 34, the world's biggest (and best) science fiction convention! WisCon encourages discussion and debate of ideas relating to feminism, gender, race and class. WisCon welcomes writers, editors and artists whose work explores these themes as well as their many fans. We have panel discussions, academic presentations, parties and readings as well as many other uncategorizable events. WisCon is primarily a book-oriented convention... with an irrepressible sense of humor.

WisCon is also the home of the Tiptree Award, which recognizes speculative fiction that explores and expands our understanding of gender.

Find out more and register for the convention at http://www.wiscon.info.

A Room of One's Own will host the reception that kicks the con off, on Thursday May 27th at 6:30 pm. This year's Guests of Honor are Mary Anne Mohanraj (author of Bodies in Motion and founder of Strange Horizons, the Speculative Literature Foundation and DesiLit, and editor of erotica anthologies Wet and Aqua Erotica) and Nnedi Okorafor (author of middle reader books Zahrah the Windseeker and Shadow Speaker as well as new adult fantasy Who Fears Death, which will debut at WisCon). The Guests of Honor will give a reading at A Room of One's Own. If you can't make it to this reading, don't worry--A Room of One's Own will also be in the Dealer's Room at the Concourse during the convention.
