We are happy to welcome Antoine Wilson to the store for a reading and book signing from his acclaimed new novel Panorama City!

PANORAMA CITY (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, September 25, 2012) is the wonderfully peculiar, moving, charming and wise new novel from author Antoine Wilson.

The book’s narrator, Oppen Porter, is an open-hearted, bicycle-riding, binocular-toting, self-described “slow absorber.” Believing he’s on his deathbed, he records onto cassette tapes everything he thinks his unborn son might find useful in becoming a man of the world. But the bulk of what Oppen knows about the “real world” comes from the 40 days he spends with his aunt in Panorama City, a suburb of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley. It’s a short and tumultuous time span in which Oppen experiences, as one advance reviewer writes, “love, heartbreak, religious awakening, spiritual founding, job promotion, switching careers, oppression, new friends, old friends, losing friends, death.”

Oppen’s compellingly readable story is about finding your own way in a world that only wants you to be somebody else. What will the world reveal when you look at it with fresh eyes? PANORAMA CITY gives readers the opportunity to find out.

Antoine Wilson is the author of the novel THE INTERLOPER and a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He is a contributing editor of A Public Space.  He grew up in Southern California and continues to live  and surf in Los Angeles. He’s online at and on Twitter @antoinewilson.  He’s pretty funny.
