The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero

This book is necessary reading to anyone who has ever seen the cult classic trainwreck of a movie The Room (dubbed by many to be the worst ever made.) This book, written by "Mark" of Room fame, documents his experiences working on-set, and attempts to delve into the psychology of Tommy Wiseau and the plot-hole-ridden script.

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

As one of the biggest biographies that has come out in recent years, this book probably doesn't need the press-- but I was blown away by Isaacson's account of the life of Steve Jobs.

Zen Confidential: Confessions of A Wayward Monk by Shozan Jack Haubner

Think Zen monks aren't human like the rest of us? Think again-- I loved this book! A truly realistic (and joyfully humorous) look at the struggle to be spiritual. Follow Haubner's journey to monkhood reflecting on the meaning to be gleaned from the strangest experiences.

Screw Everyone: Sleeping My Way to Monogamy by Ophira Eisenberg

Not familiar with this sassy standup comedian (and radio personality)'s work, I was thrilled to find this memoir of relationships absolutely hilarious and heartfelt.

A sympathetic, sweet story about a girl who is famous in her fandom (think Harry Potter BNFs) going to her first year of college and navigating growing up, falling in love, and deciding how she wants to live her life. The characters are so real, I laughed and cried and couldn't put this down. I was afraid the book would come off as dismissive of fanfiction and fannish identity, but it doesn't (for those of you who were worried--I definitely was).  Tumblr fans will recognize the distinctive art of Noelle Stevenson (aka gingerhaze) gracing the cover.

Nancy's rec: A novelisation of the true life of a
turn-of-the-century midwife, the author's great-great-grandmother. It
addresses contemporary issues of our day and hooks you in from page one.
Very compelling, fascinating read.

Revival by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton

A surprising, very human (and gruesome) story set in Wausau in a town
quarantined because the dead came back to life one day. GREAT ensemble
cast and strong writing that deals deftly with the reality of rural WI
life, racism, sexism and family issues. Unsettling horror meets small
town drama. Beautiful art and solid writing make this another favorite
from Image.
